Hi! I'm Michele.
I have dedicated my life to studying the ancient past and it is my passion to share this knowledge with the world. I am the Curator of Archaeology at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, where I care for archaeological collections from around the world. I am also a lecturer on "Museums in the 21st Century" at the University of Colorado, Denver. I am a subject expert in ancient South American civilizations, mummies of the world, community-based archaeology, archaeological field techniques, decolonization practices in museums, and more. I am a National Geographic Explorer for my work in Peru. An advocate for Women in Science, I direct various archaeological projects, having worked in Bolivia, Chile, China, France, and in the Southwest and Northeast USA, with current projects in Peru, New Mexico, and Colorado. Working both with old collections that haven't been touched in decades and running new excavations allow me to continuously make and share new discoveries, which couldn't be more exciting! |

I live in Lakewood, Colorado with my husband, son, and big yellow dog. Although I am a science nerd by day, I love to hike, run, bike, ski, camp and enjoy all the nature and outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer. I also love a well-prepared meal paired with a glass of vino, bluegrass dance parties, and hanging out with friends and my extended family.
In the practice of exploring new things, I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training in 2020 and can often be found on my yoga mat. If I could live by one motto in life it would be: Show up and be your authentic self everyday. |
You can't really know where you are going, until you know where you have been.
